BMD-1 on a convoy protection duty in Afghanistan.

Boyevaya Mashina Desanta 1
or BMD-1 for short stands for "Combat Vehicle of the Airborne". As the name implicates, it is a light infantry fighting vehicle designed for airborne troops (VDV). It is a modification of BMP-1 built on a smaller and lighter hull, but it still has the same turret. Because of this it can be airdropped using parachutes. An improved version was also built which is called BMD-2. It can be found in the game Combat Mission: Afghanistan.
